Job Overview

The primary objective of the Vice President, Sales & Marketing Operations is to strategically oversee the Sales & Marketing Operations and Global Sales disciplines for the Sage Independent Collection portfolio of hotels within Sage Hotel Management. The goal is to maximize revenues through all channels, sales and marketing efforts which will ultimately provide the best possible return on investment for our owners and equity partners. This position has direct responsibility for people resources and revenues as relates to this area. It will indirectly supervise Corporate Directors, S&M Operations and Corporate Directors, Global Sales to meet and exceed the strategic goals of the organization. It will also provide proactive service support for our senior hotel team leaders and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit leadership competencies that create vision, provide direction and drives the success of the company’s direct sales and marketing efforts far into the future for multiple properties.

  • Lead strategic planning, development, and coordination of business initiatives and strategies for the Sage Hotel Management division and organization as a whole.

  • Oversee communication to customers related to the long-term vision and strategies and ensuring timely and proactive communications to all stakeholders.

  • Facilitate the development of a strategic sales and marketing approach that follows a standardized process and effectively communicates strategy and revenue projections.

  • Partner with property leadership to provide advice, guidance and support for the various sales functions and day to day initiatives. Act as first line resource for divisional inquiries and questions related to sales and marketing initiatives.

  • Monitor and review property business plans and results on a quarterly basis, including making recommendations based on changing conditions and results.

  • Assist Corporate DOSM Operations, DOSM and GM in providing strategic guidance for Local and Banquet Catering F&B revenues and sales operations. Must understand and be able to articulate catering and banquet F&B strategies and actions.

  • Ensure the value of the franchise investment is maximized by utilizing franchise systems and resources; staying current on changes in systems; maximizing and networking with franchise associates; recommending property-specific applications; actively participating in franchise-sponsored functions and programs.

  • Provide sales resources and be sure they are applied on a cost-effective, property-specific basis, making recommendations for hotels, providing training and support to properties, and by making recommendations to the corporate leadership team that will expand and enhance corporate resources.

  • Evaluate, identify, and implement appropriate sales automation for hotel activity.

  • Ensure coordinated efforts around sharing value-added best practices and procedures.

  • Ensuring property and corporate systems and reports are effective (develop and maintain corporate roll up of all key sales measurements), proven sales office systems and procedures are in place at each hotel, and providing complete, timely, comprehensive trip reports following corporate guidelines, maintaining a standardized filing system for property

information/reports/correspondence, and reporting monthly on accomplishments, portfolio performance projections, and upcoming priorities/projects.

  • Executing accurate, professional market studies as requested to support business development needs by preparing for and participating in internal/external client presentations/meetings/reports; responding to client requests and concerns and fully communicating these to management; communicating any leads for management contract opportunities to business development, wisely allocating time, resources and expenses to areas of highest impact and by assuming additional responsibilities for special projects or to oversee a functional support area within the marketing department.

  • Support General Managers and the Operations team with thoughtful analytics regarding forecasting, pace, market share and margin improvement to include the development of effective comprehensive metrics and reporting processes.

  • Identify potential challenges that could impact the business in the future while taking corrective action on current performance deficiencies. Recommend and implement changes to prevent known performance deficiencies from occurring again.

  • Annual Plan review – Provide detailed review of the annual budget and forecasts and identify opportunities to maximize market share, revenue, etc. Assist with the preparation of the annual plan for each hotel providing guidance to the properties in setting strategy and ensuring that the numbers support the strategy. Support the Operations Team with the annual presentations to ownership.

  • Ensure a qualified sales team is in place to implement the properties' plans and stimulate property and corporate growth by identifying and evaluating skill and competency levels; developing a framework to assist general managers in establishing individual and department goals/objectives, associate evaluation and development, and providing coaching, training and recognition; and accompanying sales leaders on sales calls.

  • Coordinate the completion of group rooms, banquet F&B and Local F&B goals. This individual will approve all quarterly & annual goals, provide quarterly reviews of these goals and assist hotels in updating goals/results as needed.

  • Mentor and develop high potential talent and future high potential talent for the organization in line with the organization’s talent management strategies.

  • Implement succession planning within each direct report to provide new opportunities as associates develop, to handle company-wide growth, and to mitigate risk if associates leave.

  • Develop a process in which high potential sales and marketing candidates for future positions are identified and put in a pipeline for opportunities.

  • Benchmarking – Understand hotel performance standards from other management companies and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Review and understand ownership need and expectations on a periodic basis.

  • Provide leadership oversight on special projects, transitions, and new property openings. Be well positioned to continue to transition further assets into the Sage portfolio.

  • Ensure implementation of Sage SOP’s, sales and marketing systems and controls at all new and transition properties.

  • Participate and maintain active company and community relations while taking part in corporate activities and meetings.

  • Always represent yourself and the company with the highest level of integrity and professionalism, including professional appearance, conduct and demeanor.

  • Perform any other assignments as directed by the organization or leadership.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training

A four-year college degree or equivalent education/experience.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of related experience in a Regional/Area Director / VP level sales and marketing role in a hospitality environment.

  • Independent, luxury/lifestyle hotel experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of computer equipment.

  • Knowledge of general sales techniques, yield management, and customer service skills.

  • Excellent personal management skills; time management, meeting deadlines, effective communication and presentations skills.

  • Must be extremely confidential and able to manage sensitive and confidential situations tactfully.

  • Negotiate, convince, sell and influence professionals and or associates.

  • Ability to work under pressure and can complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities.

  • Develop strong internal and customer relations.

  • Excellent mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances
