Job Overview

The Vice President of Business Development will play a key role leading the Company in achieving its growth objectives including identifying management contract opportunities through existing hotels, conversion of existing assets, and ground-up construction development projects. This individual will be involved in all phases of preparing and leading presentations to prospective management contract opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and execute an aggressive outbound solicitation process to uncover management opportunities in target markets by leveraging industry contacts and networks.

  • Build new and nurture existing client relationships with all key brands, operating partners, capital relationships, owners, public and private REITs and other institutional owners, brokers, industry colleagues and other real estate-focused third parties promoting Sage to be the preferred partner to transact and do business with.

  • Effectively market Sage’s competitive advantages to the marketplace.

  • Prepare tailored “pitches” through effective decks and lead presentations to prospective management contract opportunities.

  • Interface with Sage Investments, Sage Studios, Sage Restaurant Concepts and Sage Hotel Management in crafting proformas, responding to RFP’s, coordinating visits to the targeted assets, arranging visits to tour Sage managed hotels and restaurants.

  • As needed, craft Term Sheets and negotiate HMA’s.

  • Execute the acquisition and development process to a superior standard of ensuring that projects conform to high quality standards, are on time and within budget.

  • Travel to business development meetings, industry conferences, trade shows, etc.

  • Negotiate hotel management agreements.

  • Create, administer, and implement winning business development strategies that the company should pursue.

  • Collaborates with leadership, as appropriate, to ensure best in class owner experience in all cases of owner interactions from follow up to delivery to needs assessment.

  • Cultivates professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, Business Development conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations related to business development.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training

Four-year bachelor’s or master’s degree preferably from a well-known and well-respected accredited finance or hotel management program is required.

Experience

  • 7+ years of hospitality business development experience.

  • 7 + years of acquisition of management contracts.

  • Investment experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of competitive landscape and SWOT of direct competitors.

  • Strong network of contacts that will lead to SHM being included in all major RFPs.

  • Deep understanding of multiple major and secondary markets.

  • Strong listening and written/verbal communication skills.

  • Strong relationships with top tier brands, REIT’s and brokers.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and lead internal teams through the “pitch” and presentation process.

  • Demonstrated success in preparing and executing professional presentations to prospective clients.

  • Ability to multi-task across a number of different opportunities.

  • Demonstrated success in securing management contracts.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
