Job Overview

The Director, Public Relations & Social Media will work with Sage’s full portfolio of hotels to drive effective, high-quality social media and public relations strategy that will build enhance their brands and ultimately drive awareness and top-line revenues. Manage all PR agency relationships and strategy in conjunction with property teams. Provide PR support to hotels without agency support. Work with each property systematically to ensure that they understand how to execute social media. Coach, train, and lead team to ensure that they proactively strategize, set goals, plan/publish content and engage with their social communities. This position serves a centralized, home office support role, and must be comfortable in a variable, multi-unit support function and be able to prioritize time and resources effectively.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Public Relations

  • Work with all properties and hired PR agencies (where applicable) to develop and execute public relations strategies and initiatives that drive awareness, create a positive reputation and support business objectives

  • Support creation of and provide counsel on partnerships, packages, programming and activations that are media worthy, on-trend and deliver on Sage’s goal of creating places people go to, not through

  • Ensure all PR initiatives support and reinforce each property’s brand identity, messaging and positioning

  • Manage crisis communications efforts for hotels as needed in the event of emergency or other crisis issue; work in conjunction with Director of Corporate Communications and PR on major crisis issues

  • Act as property spokesperson to the media as needed

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key journalists, freelancers, publications and influencers to support property PR efforts

  • Provide training as needed to property level teams on PR purpose, best practices and execution

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders at the corporate level to ensure that all teams are informed on, and aligned with, property PR efforts

  • Act as a liaison to hotel ownership as needed to ensure alignment on PR strategies and progress

  • Creation and upkeep of relevant SOPs and training materials

  • Work with property teams and key stakeholders to create yearly budget recommendations for all properties to support projected business goals

  • Administration of property level needs in all PR software including, but not limited to Cision and PR Newswire

  • Manage all necessary news subscriptions for media monitoring (Denver Post, Business Journals, etc.)

  • Work with all properties/agency partners to evaluate and manage incoming media/influencer requests, including broadcast/filming opportunities

  • Oversee all reporting of PR efforts; administration of Sage’s standardized reporting structure; use reporting to drive improved content, PR initiatives and decisions

  • Recommend changes and new reporting based in changes in technology and other areas of change to ensure reports are always relevant and delivering useful insights

  • For properties with outsourced agency support:

  • Attend all bi-weekly/monthly update calls with property teams and agencies

  • Monitor quality of results delivered by agencies on behalf of hotels, providing feedback and direction as needed to ensure all properties receive the highest level of service and production from agency partners

  • Manage all agency relationships from a corporate level to ensure alignment with Sage’s goals and expectations

  • Direct RFP process from start to finish for properties hiring/changing PR vendors; review and approve of all agency agreements

  • Act as PR representation for properties without outsourced PR support

  • Provide counsel on best practices, industry trends, strategic planning, etc.

  • Write and distribute press releases

  • Proactive/reactive pitching

  • Maintain running list of hotel awards, accolades and top press hits

Social Media

  • Manage the Corporate Director/Manager, Social Media to:

  • Work with all hotel properties and hired Social Media agencies (where applicable) to develop and execute social media strategies that drive awareness, positively portray property and support business objectives

  • Train and develop property level associates who execute social media to educate them in all levels of social media management and execution on behalf of a business

  • Counsels all property teams on social media best practices and KPIs

  • Monitor all property social media efforts to ensure quality and adherence with best practices

  • Creation and upkeep of relevant SOPs and training materials

  • Manage crisis communications efforts for hotels as needed in the event of emergency or other crisis issue; work in conjunction with Director of Corporate Communications and PR on major crisis issues

  • Provides tools and resources to properties to streamline their social media management such as Sprout Social, content calendar templates, etc.

  • Work with properties on audits of their social media content and profile information on a regular basis

  • Work with properties as needed to refine social media tone of voice, content priorities direction to ensure alignment with brand identity, messaging, etc.

  • Ensure that all social media sweepstakes and promotions are legally compliant

  • Provide guidance and training on paid promotions or organic posts/owned content on social media

  • Administration of associate access to all social media accounts and platforms

  • Maintenance of database of all social media account passwords and access information

  • Monitor for duplicate accounts and pages for Sage properties and work to have those removed as necessary

  • Administration of all third-party social media platforms including Sprout Social (in collab with SRC)

  • Administration of Facebook ad accounts for all properties to support their boosted post and fan acquisition strategies

  • Troubleshooting of any connection issues or other challenges with social media platforms on behalf of property teams

  • Oversee all reporting of social media efforts; use reporting to drive improved content, social media initiatives and decisions

  • Recommend changes and new reporting based in changes in technology and other areas of change to ensure reports are always relevant and delivering useful insights

  • For properties with outsourced social media management:

  • Attend regular check in calls for properties with outsourced social media agencies

  • Manage all agency relationships from a corporate level to ensure alignment with Sage’s goals and expectations

  • Direct RFP process from start to finish for properties hiring/changing social media vendors; review and approve of all agency agreements

Additional Responsibilities

  • On-property direction and management of photo and video shoots as needed

  • Work with property teams to craft responses to negative reviews on Google, TripAdvisor, etc.; help as needed with crafting communications to guests in sensitive situations. Consult with Director of Corporate Communications and PR as needed on major issues.

  • All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training

A four-year college degree or equivalent education/experience. BA in a marketing or communications-related field (marketing, advertising, public relations, strategic communications, journalism, etc.) preferred.

Experience

10+ years’ public relations and social media management experience.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent time management and project management skills, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail oriented or highly organized

  • Up for the challenge of building data and reporting standards from the ground up

  • Understanding of social media strategy and optimization

  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills; confident presenter

  • Strong writing skills with an ability to integrate branding tone into strategy

  • Ability to create high quality social media content, understanding of how to create compelling visual content

  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven mindset

  • Ability to align creative strategy with overall business objectives

  • Self-starter and able to work under ambiguity and adapt quickly to changing environments

  • Proficiency in a variety of social media tools and the ability to learn new technologies quickly as well as identify and evaluate the potential impact of new ones

  • Strong working knowledge of public relations strategy and operations

  • Excellent mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances

  • Excellent reading and effective writing abilities for completing paperwork and management reports, giving and receiving instructions, review and preparation of all documentation and training
