Job Overview

To be eligible for this position you must be a current member of Local 134 IBEW. The Apprentice Electrician is responsible for following all safety policies and procedures, providing good workmanship in a timely manner, installation, maintenance, servicing, and rebuilding of electrical equipment to sustain specified safety and performance standards of rides, buildings, sound equipment, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Reports facilities repair requirements to supervisor and plans repairs.

  • Estimates materials purchases for electrical repairs.

  • Installs and monitors the performance of electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.

  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of electrical equipment, manual and power tools; promotes workplace safety with tools and equipment.

  • Moves or lifts furniture and boxes.

  • Interprets blueprints; works from sketches or verbal instructions.

  • Lays out, assembles, installs, tests, repairs, and adjusts electrical fixtures, apparatus, equipment, wiring and new service to include panels, breakers and circuits.

  • Mounts motor, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.

  • Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using appropriate tools and testing equipment.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs electric controls, motor control panels and programmable logic controls.

  • Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of electrical repair supplies.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training

High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.

Experience

Must be a current member of Local 134 IBEW.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of repairing, maintaining and installing electrical, sound, refrigeration and kitchen equipment.

  • Must have the ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal direction and supervision.

  • Produce, read, understand, and trouble-shoot electrical diagrams and schematics.

  • Thorough knowledge of wire and conduit sizing for proper amperage loads, bending and installing EMT, rigid conduit, and MC Cable.

  • Basic knowledge of PLC controls and their functions; AC/DC Motor Drives.

  • Basic knowledge of computers and their functions

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to read written communiques, LED read-outs, meters, and computer screens.

  • Must be able to pull levers and rotate knobs, work with arms raised above head and to handle and assemble small parts using basic hand and power tools.

  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal/written instructions, communicate both verbally and in writing, utilize analytical thought processes, understand verbal/written technical and mechanical instruction, and be highly organized.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and courteously with employees, guests and contractors in writing, via telephone and in person.

  • Must be able to lift 75lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift.

  • Must be able to crawl into and through small spaces, climb ladders, support and carry loads of 75lbs.

  • Must be able to use electricians' hand tools, pipe and conduit benders (hand and hydraulic), wire pullers, electrical fish, pipe threader, amp meters, voltmeters, etc.

Environment

Indoor exposure to both stable and extreme variance of hot and cold temperatures. Outside exposure to all weather elements and extreme fluctuations of temperature. Prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and heavy lifting.
